| 1 Print out (with Edible Ink) Butterfly Image onto Wafer Paper. Do It With Icing can print them out for you for a mere $.25 per sheet.
2 Cut the butterflies out carefully, try and stay just inside the outline. Handle the printed butterfly as little as possible, the moisture in your fingers will warp the wafer paper.
3 Brush luster dust on the butterflies you have cut out & fold gently down body line so that the wings are at a natural angle.
4 Melt candy melts in a Ziploc bag in the microwave in 30 second intervals, smooshing the chocolate after each 30 seconds.
5 Snip a tiny bit off the corner the Ziploc bag and pipe the bodies of the butterflies onto the parchment or silpat and insert the wafer paper butterflies.
6 After a minute, pipe the body of the butterfly again, over top of the wafer paper to secure the wings and allow to harden.
The butterflies should not be kept anywhere moist, like the refrigerator, and should be placed on the cake as soon as possible to serving time. They can be stored with silica gel or other moisture absorbers in an airtight container. Moisture will make the butterflies warp and curl. |
